On June 17, 2006, unknown part-time driver David Gilliland brought his homemade car and can-do attitude to Kentucky Speedway. With just seven NASCAR starts, his best Nationwide finish was 29th. But that night he achieved one of the sport’s greatest upsets ever. Circle of Hope An Inspiring NASCAR Journey profiles fascinating lesser-known drivers in NASCAR's two top series through joy and triumph, disappointment and defeat. Journalist Deann Alford follows hope-driven stories of Sprint Cup driver David Reutimann; NASCAR legend Morgan Shepherd; ARCA truck champion Brett Rowe; Nationwide driver Eric McClure; and David Gilliland whose spectacular win landed on NASCAR media’s ballot for “Race of the Decade.” This book offers behind-the-scenes portraits of drivers and those covering the sport, plus vignettes with stars Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Trevor Bayne and celebrated dirt racer Buzzie Reutimann. Each provided the author with hope amid her own darkest season of grief. Circle of Hope brings refreshing encouragement to those needing hope, no matter their walk, in their own battles of life.

I grew up in the era when NASCAR was a part time regional attraction on Wide World of Sports. As I got older it just wasn't a part of my sports world although I remembered it fondly. I rediscovered it about the time the author did and I have been intrigued with the sport and it's history since. This is a good NASCAR book, but it's an even better book about our God given need to find hope in his love no matter who we are. As Saint Paul exhorts, run the race faithfully.Product details

Circle of Hope An Inspiring NASCAR Journey edition by Deann Alford Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
An inspirational look at NASCAR drivers that struggles throughout their racing seasons. At times a little hard to follow the story line. Also, if you are not familiar with NASCAR and the drivers, this book may not be very interesting.
I appreciated some of the history of different drivers. My feelings about several drivers changed. One that didn't change much was David Reutiman. I watched his father, Buzzie, race at Reading Fairgrounds in the '60's and David's style of racing is much the same. What I didn't know was how anxious David got before the race and how he reacted to that anxiety.
I'm not really a NASCAR fan but I am interested in underdogs and their struggles and the hope they have to keep believing and to keep achieving incredible feats. This book, although not the best written book I've read, gives the reader encouragement for their journey in life.
Easy to read, well written story about lesser know NASCAR underdog racers. Through luck, generosity of others, faith , skill and perserverance these underdogs sometimes become top dogs in the exciting and dangerous sport of motor car racing. Very human and warm characters.
Well written, gives some insight into the "Have Nots" of NASCAR; the ones who race or Love, not Money. Ms Alford does an excellent job of melding her two loves; JESUS and NASCAR. in that order. By necessity, she covers the Nationwide guys and gals, since there are no have nots in Cup.
When I cracked this book open I really didn't know what to expect. I'm not a NASCAR girl, but I can say, after reading this book, I want to be! I am inspired! NASCAR seems so complicated (points, qualifications, owners, rides, etc) but I'm ready to get into it! How could a sport in which a majority of its athletes love Jesus be bad?!
This book was a lot of information about some of the drivers who have not had an opportunity to secure a full-time ride. From time to time I couldn't tell which series the driver was in. The years seemed to jump around. I would have liked a story about one driver at a time to avoid confusion. I've been a NASCAR FAN for years and a racing fan for over 60 years so any book about racing is my kind of book.
